Footy season is back! Watching a live footy game is always a great experience. If you’re a diehard AFL, NRL or Soccer fan and can’t get to the big game, you'll need the right tech gear to keep you up to date with the live action from the comfort of home.
Consider these 2 tech tips to keep you up to date with live game play this season.
1. Tune in to DAB+ Digital Radio Listen to live match calls in digital sound quality whilst resting or multi-tasking. “DAB+ digital radio” offers an enhanced listening experience for radio listeners with features including exceptional sound quality, free to air, on screen information and more station choice. Digital radio is currently available in 5 metro capital cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, plus Hobart, Darwin, Canberra and Mandurah. The list is growing so be sure to check out if you have coverage in your area. All the major commercial networks have a variety of stations and new formats available on DAB+ digital radio along with national broadcasters ABC and SBS. For example, AFL fans can tune into a range of digital platform including SEN, Southern Cross Austereo, FIVEaa, Nine Radio, K Rock, Nova, or ABC. There’s a digital radio to suit all budgets and a digital radio station to suit your preferred commentary style.
Tech tip: Consider a desktop digital radio for indoor use, or portable radio for convenience when outside or on the go.
2. Watch the game on the big screen with your own home Projector Watching the game live is the best way to experience the action. But what if you can't make it to the game, and want to watch with a group of friends? Fortunately, there are ways to watch the game live without leaving the comfort of your own home. If your TV screen is just far too small to immerse yourself in the game, a projector can give you a big-screen experience. Plus, it's portable so that you can take it with you to a friend's house or footy party, and is easily packed away at the end of the game. A few tech tips to consider when choosing a projector for watching AFL, NRL or any live sports.
(i) Resolution.
You'll want to ensure that the projector has a high resolution to suit your space. This will ensure that you get a clear image of the game during daylight. We recommend a 1080P projector for best viewing in a light room, and minimum 720P projector for best viewing in a dark room. However also consider below factors too. (ii) Contrast ratio
Generally, the higher the contrast ratio, the better the image quality and brightness. However other factors such as ambient light in the room , reflections etc affect image quality. The darker the room (less ambient light), the better the image contrast. If you're watching the footy during the day, pull the curtains or blinds closed to optimise your image quality. (iii) Audio
Keep up with live commentary and the crowd roar with good audio. Check if you can connect external speakers via Bluetooth or simply plugged into the projector’s audio port. (iv) Surface
Projector screens vary widely in size and material however can offer great anti-light reflection, and a matte surface to project on. If you don’t have a projector screen handy, find the best blank wall in your house, close any nearby blinds to reduce reflection, and position the projector to achieve the optimum size screen in your space. Keep in mind you will need a small table or surface to place the projector and be near a powerpoint. (v) Streaming
If your projector does not have Bluetooth built in, simply plug in a chrome cast device into your projector’s HDMI port, connect via the internet, and stream your preferred sports APP (eg 7 Plus, 9Now, Kayo Sports, Foxtel etc) from your smartphone or device to the projector. Less leads, less trip hazards (our preferred setup!)
To watch live football this season, the right tech equipment can make all the difference to your experience. There's a digital radio and projector to suit all budgets. Footy fever is here so warm up the party pies and barrack hard. May the best team win.
